The Staycation Selector: data methodology
We used a variety of sources whilst gathering the data for the tool. Once collated, we assigned a simple scoring system to each county and state value - this is what powers the tool. Depending on the final value, each state and county is ranked in a separate scoring block (1 through 10), where data was unavailable the location has been assigned a value of 0. To determine the final ranks, these were simply added together - the higher the score, the better the position.
The creative itself allows users to sort the different locations based on a selected factor or overall ranking. The tool also features a selection function for users to select for a specific location.
